The 2022 Davis Street Community Center Impact Report

Rose Padilla Johnson has worked with Davis Street Community Center Incorporated in San Leandro, California, since 1991. As chief executive officer of the San Leandro community services provider, Rose Padilla Johnson has developed a number of innovative programs designed to support low-income residents.

According to the Davis Street Community Center Impact Report, the organization spent 44.8 percent of funding (the majority of which came from government contract) on childcare provider payments. A comparable 40.6 percent was spent on salaries, while the remaining funds were directed to programming, fundraising, and marketing. The organization primarily serves local residents, but provides services throughout Alameda County. Clinical services are particularly widespread, with 51 percent of patients coming from Oakland, Hayward, and other parts of the county.

The Child Development Center helped nearly 900 children enroll in the alternative payment program (a childcare voucher program) in 2022. Approximately 163 families enrolled children in a childcare center at no cost. Other programs that benefited local residents included the Basic Needs Program (one of the region’s largest free food pantries) and the annual Holiday Basket and Toy Program.
